I think this is the last area of the internet that I will ever touch. It seems so damn High School like and stupid. Yeah, yeah, I know I am not seeing it for all it could be, but everytime I go...you've heard all this before right? It seems full of adware and crap and runs like shit on every computer I try going to it with. Annoying and terrible creation that thing is, and needs to be nuked.
I find MySpace to be a great way for bands to reach more people and promote shows. Just here in L.A. we have built a nice little scene and use MySpace to keep in touch with each other. I have also met some really cool people from outside of the U.S. like Johnny Rainbow. another great thing about it is that I now have connections to other states and these people are willing to help out at the booking level if we ever set up a tour.
I think that myspace has taken over from *censored* as the prime hookup site. I've noticed so many people from there lately, I think it's quite funny.
For the record, I don't hate myspace. I think if
you live in one of its more communal (in real
life) hotspots, like SF or LA or whatever, it can
be a great social tool. Too many horrendously
designed sites have transformed - transmogrified -
it into something awful to look at, so hence awful
to experience. 'Friends' lists, of course, are
highly spurious, but most of the music I've heard
up there hasn't been too bad.
I'm sure the 'trendiness' of it will be superseded
soon enough. Broadband will see to that - music,
pix, text chats and and blogs, won't be enough,
and something multimedia, more video-centric,
will replace it, and things might be really ex-
citing then.

Theres nothing to bitch about, the people that use it obviously like it, its not mandatory like an email address is, you don't HAVE to have one if you have the internet, its just fun and there are some pretty cool people on there.
Also its a cool way to keep up to date with what bands are doing and find some new ones (yes there is alot of shit, but also a few gems), without the whole fanlist crap.
For some reason I mostly lurk on here, but I'm on myspace....http://profiles.myspace.com/users/263145.
I'm on there under my yahoo addy (no cool handle for me)...though my enthusiasm for the site faded after a little under a week. UGH. Just another message board type place, seems like. I'd personally rather chat with people on AIM...
